Milwaukee Marquette had a perfect weekend at the annual Jesuit Classic boys soccer tournament, which was held this year in Aurora, Colo.

The Hilltoppers (9-0-2), ranked 15th in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and first in the state by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association, got past Kansas City's Rockhurst 2-1 on Friday afternoon and cruised past host Regis Jesuit 8-2 on Saturday morning.

Senior Alex McBride, a Marquette recruit, and junior Quinn English – both defenders – scored for Marquette in the win over Rockhurst (5-1-1), which had outscored opponents 19-1 coming into the match.

Defenders were in the goals again on Saturday, as McBride and fellow seniors Mike Wabiszewski and Derek Brehm found the net  against Regis (2-2-1). Freshman Jack Shaw led the way with a pair of goals for Marquette, while junior forwards Jackson Weiss and Will Christenson and sophomore striker Ted Bieser also were on the scoresheet.

A champion wasn't named for the event, but Marquette joined Washington D.C.'s Gonzaga in winning both matches on the weekend – the Eagles posted 2-0 victories over Regis on Friday and Rockhurst on Saturday. One of the standouts for Gonzaga (4-0-1) is senior midfielder Ian Harkes, a Wake Forest recruit and the son of former U.S. national teamer and professional player John Harkes.

The Jesuit Classic includes the same four teams each season, with the schools rotating as hosts: The event was in Milwaukee last year, Gonzaga played host to the 2010 event and the 2009 matches were in Kansas City.

  • SOUTHERN BADGER: Senior Colin McReavy scored in the 89th minute as Oregon extended its conference winning streak to 23 games with a 2-1 overtime victory over host Fort Atkinson on Friday night at Jones Dairy Farm Stadium. Royce Neujahr's late goal forced overtime, as the senior found a 76th-minute equalizer for the Blackhawks (10-2-0 overall, 3-1-0 Southern Badger). Senior Scott Odorico opened the scoring in the 55th for the three-time defending conference champion Panthers (8-1-1, 3-0-0), who haven't lost in Southern Badger play since Madison Edgewood beat them 2-1 in overtime back on Sept. 23, 2008. Coincidentally enough, the Crusaders (8-2-0, 4-0-0) lead the league standings heading into their match Tuesday night in Oregon. Edgewood also plays host to Fort on Sept. 25 at Breese Stevens Field.
  • BIG EIGHT: Derek Ott had a pair of goals and fellow senior Jefferson Driscoll also scored as host and second-ranked Middleton topped No. 7 Madison West 3-1 at Firefighters Memorial Park to take control of the conference race. Ott's 35th-minute goal gave the Cardinals (10-1-1, 6-0-0) the lead and Driscoll doubled the advantage in the 61st. Senior midfielder Edi Hernandez pulled one back for the Regents (11-1-0, 5-1-0) in the 68th, but Ott quickly restored Middleton's two-goal cushion with his second of the night just 12 seconds later. The Regents joined Verona and Madison Memorial, who are both 4-1-0, with one loss in conference play.
