Milwaukee Marquette became a top-10 team in one national prep boys soccer poll this week while falling out of the top 10 in the other.

The Hilltoppers (23-1-2), who closed out the season last weekend by winning their third consecutive WIAA Division 1 state championship, moved up four spots to No. 8 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America rankings.

However, they dropped five places to No. 15 in the Elite Soccer Report Top 50.

Marquette remains on top of the NSCAA Region VI poll, which includes four other state sides: No. 7 Middleton (20-4-2), No. 11 Green Bay Preble (21-3-3), No. 12 Muskego (18-6-2) and No. 15 Kettle Moraine (16-6-4).

ESR's top three teams for Wisconsin are Marquette, state runner-up Kettle Moraine and Eau Claire Memorial (20-3-2), which lost to the Hilltoppers 4-0 in the state quarterfinals.

  • The Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Boys All-State Committee will meet next Wednesday in Milwaukee to select this year's honor teams. The group will name 11-player first and second teams, regardless of division, along with no more than 35 "Best of the Rest" selections. Last year, the WSCA selected Large Schools and Small Schools boys all-state teams. Each conference is encouraged to nominate players, as are coaches of independent teams. More information about the process is available on the WSCA website.
