Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) joined his new club team Wednesday, then headed back to the U.S. to join the Canadian national team.

Ricketts, fresh off signing with Norwegian club Sandnes Ulf, is one of 22 players called in by interim coach Colin Miller for Canada's upcoming friendlies against Denmark next Saturday in Tucson, Ariz., and the United States on Jan. 29 in Houston.

Miller is filling in as the Canadian Soccer Association looks for a successor to Stephen Hart, who resigned following the team's 8-1 loss to Honduras in a third-round CONCACAF World Cup qualifier in October. The loss ended the team's quest to earn a spot in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil; Canada has qualified for the World Cup only once, in 1986.

The 25-year-old Ricketts is one of just four players on the roster who played in the World Cup qualifiers; the squad has an average age of just less than 25, making it the youngest Canadian roster since May 2006.

  • FC Kansas City defender Lauren Sesselmann (Green Bay Notre Dame) and the Canadian women's national team finished 1-1-1 at the Yongchuan Cup in China. Sesselmann started and played 62 minutes at center back in a 0-0 draw with Norway on Wednesday to wrap up the four-team tournament. She didn't play in Monday's 3-1 loss to South Korea.
