Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) came off the bench for the final 12 minutes Friday, but couldn't keep the Canadian national team from dropping a 2-1 decision to Japan in an international friendly in Doha, Qatar.

The 25-year-old Ricketts, who plays for Sandnes Ulf in Norway's top-level Tippeligaen, had a chance for an equalizer in the final 10 minutes of his 21st cap but saw his attempt turned away by Japanese goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima.

Canada fell behind after just eight minutes, then pulled level through Marcus Haber in the 58th before Japan took the lead again in the 74th. The Canadians face Belarus in another friendly on Monday in Doha.

  • University of Wisconsin freshman midfielder Kinley McNicoll is in camp with the Canadian women's Under-20 national team in Portland, Ore. The National Excel camp started March and wraps up Monday; the team played the University of Portland in a friendly on Friday night in the lone match of the camp.
  • Defender Luka Prpa from Wind Lake was called in to a U.S. Under-15 boys national camp from March 23 to 31 at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif. It's the seventh national team camp for Prpa, who plays for Muskego High School and Cedarburg club North Shore United.
