The WIAA has released the sectional assignments for its first four-division boys soccer tournament on Tuesday.
The 64 largest schools were placed in Division 1 for next fall, with the next 64 largest in the new-look Division 2 field. The remaining 134 schools were split evenly, with 67 teams in both division 3 and 4.
The decision by the WIAA in January to create a fourth division led to some interesting shifting in brackets in addition to the division changes – essentially, teams previously in divisions 2 and 3 now make up divisions 3 and 4.
In Division 1, nine-time state champion Milwaukee Marquette will play in a sectional with the Kenosha and Racine schools, and the Madison-area Division 1 teams are paired with the West Allis schools, Kettle Moraine, Mukwonago and Waukesha South. Meanwhile, teams from the Appleton, Green Bay, Wausau and Eau Claire areas are all in one wide-reaching northern sectional.
Rivals Brookfield East and Brookfield Central, who have 23 state tournament appearances between them, and 10-time state qualifier Whitefish Bay are in the same Division 2 sectional. Three teams that had previously have had success in Division 2 – Oregon, Sauk Prairie and Monona Grove – highlight the Madison-area sectional.
Each of the four divisions has four sectionals and state qualifiers; in previous years, there were eight Division 1 sectionals and four each in divisions 2 and 3. Here are all of the sectional assignments for all 262 of this fall's boys teams:
