Virginia women's coach Steve Swanson, an original member of the Milwaukee Wave, was named the U.S. Under-20 women's national team coach Monday.

Swanson will continue to coach the Cavaliers in addition to his latest role with the U.S. Soccer Federation – he's also been the Under-16 and Under-18 national team coach and has served as an assistant with the Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 teams in previous stints with the national program.

Swanson coached at Stanford and Dartmouth before taking over at Virginia, where he's been for the past 11 years. He played in 85 games for the Wave from 1984 to '87, scoring 22 goals with 31 assists and 79 blocks.
