Late goals for, against Canada

There was plenty of drama for Lauren Sesselmann (Green Bay Notre Dame) and the Canadian women's national team during a pair of international friendlies in Europe in the past five days.

Kaylyn Kyle scored in the final seconds of second-half stoppage time as Canada pulled out a 1-1 draw with France on Thursday in Nice. But the shoe was on the other foot Sunday, when Ellen White redirected a shot in the second minute of stoppage time to give England a 1-0 victory over Canada in Rotherham.

Sesselmann started and played 74 minutes against France, which took the lead through Élodie Thomis' goal in first-half stoppage time. The FC Kansas City defender came off the bench to play the final 15 minutes against England in her 32nd cap.

Chicago Red Stars defender Carmelina Moscato, a former University of Wisconsin assistant coach, played the full 90 minutes in both matches. The game against France was her 75th international appearance, making her the 18th player in Canadian history to reach that mark.

Sesselmann and FC Kansas City are set to play the inaugural National Women's Soccer League match next Saturday night, as they play host to Portland Thorns FC in Overland Park, Kan. Moscato and the Red Stars open their season next Sunday at home against Seattle Reign FC in Lisle, Ill.
