Lauren Sesselmann (Green Bay Notre Dame) and the Canadian national team beat the third-ranked women's soccer team in the world Saturday – and the left back nearly scored her first international goal in the process.

Canada got past Brazil 2-1 in an internationally friendly in Foxborough, Mass., with Christine Sinclair scoring twice to overcome a penalty kick by five-time world player of the year Marta.

Sesselmann, who started and played 71 minutes in her 16th cap, just missed out on her first goal in the 53rd minute. Her header off a corner kick by teammate Sophie Schmidt appeared goal-bound, but a Brazilian defender cleared the ball off the line.

Canada continues its preparation for this summer's London Olympics with friendlies at Sweden on March 31 and at home against China on May 24. The Olympics are July 25 to Aug. 9.
