Midfielder Rose Lavelle, who will be a freshman at the University of Wisconsin the fall, was named to the U.S. Under-20 women's national team for next month's 12 Nations tournament in La Manga, Spain.

The U.S. will play Norway on March 7, Germany on March 9 and Sweden on March 11 at the tournament under the direction of former U.S. national teamer Michelle French, who was announced Wednesday as the first full-time Under-20 women's national team coach.

Lavelle trained with the Under-18 national team from Feb. 2 to 9 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. She was a four-year starter at Cincinnati's Mount Notre Dame High School and set the program record with 57 career goals.

UW hasn't announced its 2013 recruiting class, but Mount Notre Dame coach Doug Conway told the Cincinnati Enquirer that Lavelle indeed signed her national letter of intent to play with the Badgers.
