The Milwaukee Wave have lost more games in the past week than they did in the first three months of the Major Indoor Soccer League season.
Gerson Dos Santos scored his second goal of the game with 59 seconds left, capping a fourth-quarter comeback as the host Norfolk SharX stunned the Wave 14-13 in front of 1,890 fans Sunday afternoon.
It was the third straight loss for Milwaukee (16-5), which still has the best record in the MISL but is just one game ahead of the Eastern Division champion Baltimore Blast (15-6). The Wave have three regular-season matches remaining: Wednesday at the Syracuse Silver Knights and next Friday and Sunday at the Missouri Comets, their opponent in the upcoming Central Division playoffs.
Goalkeeper Jamie Lieberman (Racine Prairie School/UW-Parkside) – a former member of the Wave reserve team – made 11 saves for the expansion SharX (5-17), who have the league's worst record but pulled out the back-and-forth game for their second consecutive victory.
Milwaukee led by three on three occasions, the last time at 13-10 when Ian Bennett scored his 17th goal of the season with 5:31 left. Marcus Schmidt pulled Norfolk within one with 3:38 remaining, setting the stage for Dos Santos' late heroics.
Six players scored and Nick Vorberg made 13 saves for the Wave, who were outshot 20-17. Matt Clare had two goals, one on a penalty kick, and two assists for the SharX.
