The host Wichita Wings scored the final nine points, including Kevin Ten Eyck's winning 3-pointer with 2:02 remaining, to stun the Milwaukee Wave 18-16 in a Major Indoor Soccer League game watched by 3,200 fans Friday night.
Ian Bennett's second goal of the game, his team-best 12th of the season, gave the Wave (11-2) a 16-9 lead 7:13 into the second half. But Milwaukee didn't score again in suffering its first road loss.
Greg Howes had two goals and an assist and defender Jonathan Greenfield added a goal and an assist for the Wave, who won their first three meetings with the Wings (6-8). The teams play again Saturday night and Thursday night in Wichita, the end of a five-game road trip for Milwaukee.
The Wave were in control throughout the first three quarters, holding leads of 8-2, 12-6 and 18-9 before the Wings stormed back.
Victor Quiroz led the way for Wichita with eight points and three goals, including two in the decisive surge – he started the run with 2:16 left in the third and pulled the Wings within one at 16-15 with his sixth goal of the season with 4:05 remaining.
Milwaukee goalkeeper Nick Vorberg made 11 saves and gave up all eight goals in 58 minutes before Josh Rife took over as the sixth attacker. The Wave scored eight times on just 14 shots against Wichita's Sanaldo Carvalho.
