Fire picks Walls in Supplemental Draft PDF Print E-mail

Tony WallsTony Walls (Wauwatosa East/UW-Green Bay) was in Florida less than two weeks ago for the Major League Soccer Combine.

Now he's headed back to the Sunshine State.

The midfielder was selected by the Chicago Fire in the third round of the MLS Supplemental Draft (No. 47 overall) on Tuesday and will report to preseason training camp with the team Friday in Ave Maria, Fla.

"We've taken four players ... that we feel can come in and challenge for a roster spot," Fire coach Frank Klopas said in a news release. "All four players have performed well at the collegiate ranks and we're looking forward to welcoming them into training camp this week in Florida."

The 5-foot-11 Walls had 18 goals and 11 assists in 79 appearances for the Phoenix in his career, including seven goals and five assists in 2011. He was the Horizon League Player of the Year last fall and was a three-time pick on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Great Lakes Region team.
