Jamie Lieberman (Racine Prairie School/UW-Parkside) was a busy man last week – the Norfolk SharX goalkeeper made a whopping 54 saves in a pair of Major Indoor Soccer League games.
The impressive performances led to the first two wins of his professional career, and on Tuesday he reaped another reward as he was named the MISL Player of the Week.
The 24-year-old Lieberman made 16 saves as the expansion SharX surprised the first-place Baltimore Blast 17-12 last Thursday, then stopped a stunning 38 shots in a 12-11 victory over the Syracuse Silver Knights on Sunday. Norfolk has won three of its past five matches after losing its first nine games.
"Jamie and the rest of the team are much improved," SharX coach Jon Hall said in a news release. "His recent performances have been terrific, and the combination of his extraordinary saves and the tenacious play of our defense in front of him have been instrumental in our recent success." Milwaukee Wave forward Marco Terminesi, who had six points in a 15-12 win over Syracuse on Friday, also was considered for the weekly honor.
