Milwaukee WaveGreg Howes snapped a tie early in the fourth quarter, Matt Stewart added a late insurance goal and the Milwaukee Wave held Syracuse scoreless for the final period as they held off the host Silver Knights 15-12 in a Major Indoor Soccer League match Friday night in front of 2,437 fans.

Marcio Leite set up three goals, including both fourth-quarter scores, Nick Perera had a goal and two assists and goalkeeper Marcel Feenstra made 16 saves as the Wave (10-1) started a five-game road trip by winning the first meeting against expansion Syracuse (6-8).

There were five lead changes in the back-and-forth game. Milwaukee scored three straight goals spanning halftime to go ahead 11-8, with Perera assisting on strikes by Stewart and defender Joe Hammes (Cedarburg) before adding his eighth goal of the season 9:23 into the second half.

The Silver Knights (6-8) answered immediately, as Jeffrey Hughes scored his second of the night 9 seconds later to make it 11-10 and set up Ryan Pierce's go-ahead goal with 1:29 left in the third quarter.

But Howes put the Wave in front for good 3:13 into the fourth with his ninth goal of the season, second on the team behind Leite's 10, and Stewart sealed the victory with his second of the game and fourth of the season with 4:24 remaining. Leite also leads Milwaukee with 10 assists.

The Wave continue their road trip Monday night at the Rochester Lancers (6-8) before playing three straight matches at the Wichita Wings.

  • Milwaukee released forward Tenzin Rampa (Madison West/UW-Milwaukee) last week. Rampa had one assist in three games this season and five goals and five assists over the past four seasons with the team.
