Marco Terminesi had a goal and an assist for his first points of the season, and Nick Perera and Ian Bennett also added three points apiece Friday night as the Milwaukee Wave bounced back from their first loss by beating the Missouri Comets 11-7 in a Major Indoor Soccer League match watched by 3,549 at U.S. Cellular Arena.
Terminesi, the team's leading scorer last season, missed the Wave's first seven games this season because of an undisclosed injury. He helped Milwaukee (9-1) take a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter, setting up Perera for the opener 11:21 into the match and scoring his first goal of the season 109 seconds later as the Wave got off to a good start – just as they did last Saturday in a 9-4 loss to the Baltimore Blast.
The Comets (8-7), who are in second place behind the Wave in the three-team Central Division, cut the deficit in half on Brian Harris' goal just before halftime. Unlike the loss to the Blast, in which Milwaukee was shut out over the final three quarters, the Wave put this one away by scoring seven consecutive points to start the second half.
Bennett nailed a 3-pointer 2:40 into the third quarter for his eighth goal of the season, Perera set up Pablo for his fourth midway through the period and Greg Howes matched Bennett with his eighth goal, scoring off a restart to make it 11-2 with 5:35 left in the game. Bennett and Howes rank second on the team in goals behind Marcio Leite, whose total remains at 10 after he missed his first game of the season Friday.
Missouri scored twice with an extra attacker in the final 2:10, including a 3-pointer by Lucas Rodriguez, but still suffered its third loss to the Wave. Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg made six saves for Milwaukee as he improved to 5-0 on the season.
After playing eight of their first 10 matches at home, the Wave start a five-game road trip next Friday with their first matchup against the expansion Syracuse Silver Knights. Milwaukee also plays the Rochester Lancers and then faces the Wichita Wings three times in seven days.
