Milwaukee WaveThe Milwaukee Wave were held to a season-low point total Tuesday night, but it didn't keep them from extending their perfect start to the season.

Marcio Leite scored his team-high 10th goal of the season and the Wave allowed just three goals as they knocked off the host Rochester Lancers 10-6 in a Major Indoor Soccer League match watched by 6,997.

Milwaukee (8-0) matched the club record for the best start to a season, set in the 2005-06 season, and held an opponent to fewer than 10 points for the fifth time in eight games.

Goals by Greg Howes and Ian Bennett in the first quarter staked the Wave to an early lead and they never trailed in winning their second road game of the season.

The Lancers (5-6) pulled within two twice, but Milwaukee had an answer both times: Leite and Nick Perera scored in a 1:28 span in the second quarter to help the Wave take an 8-4 halftime lead, and defender Joe Hammes scored the final goal of the night late in the third quarter. Bennett is second on the team with eight goals, followed by Howes and Hammes with seven apiece.

Pat Hannigan finished with 18 saves for Rochester, which saw its two-game winning streak with its second loss to Milwaukee. Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg finished with nine saves and lowered his league-leading points-against average to 8.00.

Lancers forward Mauricio Salles, last week's MISL Player of the Week and the league's second-leading scorer with 16 goals and 40 points, was held to three shots and an assist. Milwaukee forward Marco Terminesi, playing his first game of the season after returning from injury, had four of the Wave's 37 shots.

Western Division leader Milwaukee returns home to face the Baltimore Blast at 2 p.m. Saturday in its annual New Year's Eve Day match at U.S. Cellular Arena. The Blast (7-3) top the Eastern Division and have the second-best record in the league, and the game is a rematch of last season's MISL final, which Milwaukee won 16-7.
