Milwaukee WaveThe Milwaukee Wave posted their fourth straight win to open the Major Indoor Soccer League season Sunday afternoon, but it ended up much closer than anyone would have expected.

The Wave, who didn't allow a goal through the first three quarters, saw the Wichita Wings score five times in the final period but held on for a 13-10 victory in front of 3,059 fans at U.S. Cellular Arena.

JP Rodrigues had two goals and an assist and Ian Bennett and Hewerton each added a goal and an assist for Milwaukee (4-0), who led 10-0 at halftime and 13-0 heading into the fourth. Bennett had a 3-pointer to account for the only scoring in the first quarter.

Wichita (1-5) – coming off its first win following four losses to start the season – scored twice in 19 seconds in the opening 3 minutes of the final period, then added three more in a 1:40 span. Carlos Farias' goal with 1:32 remaining pulled the Wings within three at 13-10.

Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg finished with nine saves for the Wave, the defending MISL champions and the league's lone unbeaten team. Milwaukee continues its four-game homestand against the Missouri Comets (4-2) at 8 p.m. Friday.
