Joe Hammes (Cedarburg) had a first-half hat trick and Greg Howes, Marcio Leite and Evan McNeley also had a hand in three goals apiece as the Milwaukee Wave routed the expansion Norfolk SharX 21-7 in a Major Indoor Soccer League game Saturday night in front of 3,242 fans at U.S. Cellular Arena.
Howes, Leite and Ian Bennett each had two goals for the defending champion Wave (2-0), who outscored the SharX 8-0 in both the first and third quarters.
Hammes had two goals, Howes had a goal and an assist and McNeley added three assists as Milwaukee roared out to a 10-0 lead 7 minutes, 20 seconds into the second, and Hammes' 3-pointer with 2:07 left in the quarter put the Wave ahead 13-5 heading into halftime.
Leite had both of his goals and his assist in a 9-minute span in the third as the advantage swelled to 21-5. Milwaukee put 28 shots on Norfolk's Jamie Lieberman (Racine Prairie School/UW-Parkside), and the former Wave reserve team goalkeeper finished with 18 saves for the SharX (0-2).
Nick Vorberg made nine saves in his first appearance of the season for Milwaukee, which plays at the Missouri Comets (3-1) on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3:10 p.m. and the game will be streamed on MISL Live.
