Wisconsin ProsAndy Stadler (Wauwatosa West) and Sandvikens IF beat Spårvägens FF 2-1 Saturday to close the season in the Division 2 Norra Svealand but missed out on promotion to the Swedish third division for next season.

Sandvikens (14-4-4) finished two points behind Enköpings SK FK (15-4-3), which held off Västerås IK 3-2 in its finale. Only the top team in the league is promoted.

Stadler played the full 90 minutes Saturday and ended up playing all but 18 minutes over the final 10 matches of the season. He finished with four goals after signing with Sandvikens during the midseason break.

Also in the Division 2 Norra Svealand, defender Greg Rosenthal (UW-Milwaukee) played every minute for Gamla Upsala, which finished third with 39 points (11-5-6).

  • Matt Pyzdrowski (Marquette) and Ängelholms FF head into the final two weeks of the season in the Superettan, Sweden's second division, within striking distance of a promotion spot. GIF Sundsvall (16-5-7) leads the league with 55 points, one point ahead of Åtvidabergs FF (17-8-3) and three in front of Ängelholms (15-6-7). The top two finishers earn automatic promotion to the top-level Allsvenskan next season, while the third-place side plays the 14th-place team from the Allsvenskan for the final spot in the league. Pyzdrowski made three saves Sunday for his eighth shutout of the year in a 3-0 victory over Östers IF for Ängelholms, which closes the season with matches against 12th-place IFK Värnamo and 13th-place Hammarby.
  • Katie Bethke (Eau Claire Memorial) scored twice Sunday, giving her five goals in 10 matches, as Arna-Bjørnar routed Linderud-Grei 9-0 in a Toppserien match in Norway. However, league-leading Røa (17-3-0) also won, eliminating Arna-Bjørnar (14-5-1) from contention with two rounds of games remaining.
