The Milwaukee Wave, the reigning Major Indoor Soccer League champions, will open their 2011-12 home schedule Sunday, Nov. 13 against the Wichita Wings at U.S. Cellular Arena.
The league, now being run by United Soccer Leagues, includes eight teams, with the Wave, Baltimore Blast and Missouri Comets the only teams returning from the 2010-11 season.
Milwaukee, Wichita and Missouri will be joined by a new team in Chicago – which currently doesn't have a nickname – in the Central Division. The Eastern Division consists of Baltimore, the Norfolk SharX, Rochester Lancers and Syracuse Silver Knights.
Teams will play a 24-game schedule featuring 16 matches against divisional foes – six each against the closest team geographically, meaning Chicago for the Wave, and five against the other two – and a home-and-home series against the four teams from the other division.
The MISL regular season kicks off Nov. 3 and concludes on March 4, and the top two teams in each division will qualify for the playoffs. The semifinals and finals will be home-and-home series with a mini-game tiebreaker if needed. The higher-seeded teams will choose which game it hosts in the series.
