Defender Katie Kelly (Marquette) is headed back to Sweden to continue her soccer career.
Kelly, who played for FC Indiana in the Women's Premier Soccer League this summer, recently signed with Hammarby IF in the Damallsvenskan.
Hammarby (0-7-4) is in a relegation battle, sitting in 11th place in the 12-team league, the top division of women's soccer in Sweden.
The team has scored only two goals in its 11 league matches – though it did score five goals over two Swedish Cup games – and has allowed 18 goals. The top bottom two teams are relegated to the Norrettan or Söderettan next season; Hammarby is four points behind Piteå for 10th place with 11 matches remaining.
Kelly played for Kristianstads DFF in the Damallsvenskan last season, making 20 appearances (12 starts). She was a regular for FC Indiana, which went 5-2-1 and lost to the Chicago Red Stars in the Midwest Conference semifinals.
