There is now a connection between soccer in Cedarburg and the Premier League.
Swansea City, which entered into a partnership with North Shore United earlier this year, beat Reading 4-2 in the nPower Championship promotion playoff final Monday at Wembley Stadium in London to earn a spot in the Premier League for the 2011-12 season.
The Swans will be the first club from Wales to play in the Premier League; however, they did play in England's top division from 1981 to '83. Monday's game is considered the richest match in world soccer, as promotion to the Premier League is worth an estimated $150 million.
North Shore United, formerly known as the Cedarburg Soccer Club, announced its partnership with Swansea City in February. Club president Mark Koenig and Sinisa Angelovski, head of youth development, visited the club and took in a match in March.
The partnership was mentioned in a recent story in the local media about the Swans' overseas support.
