Ellis McLoughlin didn't need long to make an impact for the San Jose Earthquakes.
The 20-year-old forward, who played youth soccer in Madison, scored his first Major League Soccer goal in the Earthquakes' 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night in San Jose, Calif. (Video below)
McLoughlin, who started his professional career with German club Hertha Berlin, headed in a cross from Chris Wondolowski in the 71st minute to give the Earthquakes a 1-0 lead.
The goal came just 4 minutes after McLoughlin came into the match, making only his third MLS appearance.
Charles Kazlauskas (Milwaukee Thomas More) played the full 90 minutes at right back Sunday as host Helmond Sport blanked BV Veendam 1-0 to win a promotion playoff series in the Netherlands. Helmond advances to play Excelsior in a two-game series for a spot in the top-division Eredivisie next season. Kazlauskas was involved in two key moments in Thursday's first leg, a 3-3 draw. He came off the bench in the 22nd minute with Helmond down 2-0 and his giveaway led to Veendam making it 3-0 in the 43rd. But Helmond came all the way back, aided by Veendam's Michael de Leeuw being sent off for a reckless challenge on Kazlauskas in the 48th. Excelsior finished 16th in the Eredivisie this season.
Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) was an unused sub Saturday as FC Politehnica Timişoara finished its season with a 4-1 romp over Dinamo Bucuresti in Romania's Liga I. Poli Timişoara (17-2-15) finished second in the 18-team league, four points behind Oţelul Galaţi, and earned a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League qualifying. Ricketts played in nine matches (four starts) and scored one goal after signing a 3½-year contract with Poli Timişoara in November.
