Andy Adlard (Brookfield East) is Wisconsin's newest professional soccer player, as the midfielder recently signed with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.
The Crew chose Adlard, 22, with the 12th pick of the third round of the MLS Supplemental Draft, the 48th overall selection.
He was a third-team selection on the National Soccer Coaches Association of American All-Great Lakes Region team as a senior at Indiana last fall.
Adlard, who played for Madison's Princeton-56ers in the National Premier Soccer League in 2008, tied his career high with seven goals and had a career-best seven assists in 20 matches (all starts) for the Hoosiers.
Adlard, whose father, Steve, was the Marquette men's coach from 1992 to 2005, finished with 19 goals (10 game-winners) and 17 assists in 86 games (69 starts) at Indiana.

Alex Horwath (UW), an MLS pool goalkeeper last season, remains in training camp with Red Bull New York battling for the No. 3 position. He saw action in a friendly last week against the reserve team from Mexican club Atlante.

Keeper Matt Pyzdrowski (Marquette) is on trial with Angelholms FF of Sweden's Superettan, the country's second division. Pyzdrowski, 24, recently had a week-long trial with the Montreal Impact, who are playing in the North American Soccer League this year before joining MLS in 2012.

Midfielder Kate Megna (Middleton/UW-Milwaukee) confirmed over the weekend that her pro career likely is over. Megna, 23, had three goals in 10 appearances for QBIK in Sweden's Söderettan (First Divison South) last year. "It was a good experience and I'm glad I did it," she said after her Megna Financial team lost in the Women's Open final at the President's Cup indoor tournament in Middleton. "But you've got to grow up sometime and get a job and make some money." Megna has joined her family's financial planning company.

Another player who was at the President's Cup was midfielder JC Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay). The 21-year-old Banks said he's essentially in a holding pattern, as he didn't get any contract offers after several trials in Sweden and hasn't heard much from Toronto FC – the Canadian club picked in the first round of the MLS Supplemental Draft. He said he would consider opportunities in the NASL and USL PRO if those were to develop.

It turns out defender Aaron Hohlbein (Middleton/UW) won't be playing for Miami FC this season. Instead, he'll be playing for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The team changed its name last week, taking over the name used by a team in the old NASL. The Strikers kicked off training camp today.
