A pair of former University of Wisconsin players earned invitations to training camps with Major League Soccer clubs.
Defender Scott Lorenz will train with Sporting Kansas City and goalkeeper Alex Horwath will look to make the New York Red Bulls' roster, according to Eddie Rock of Libero Sports, which represents both players.
Lorenz, 23, was part of an invitation mini-camp this week in Kansas City and showed well enough to claim a spot at camp, which starts next week in Arizona.
In an e-mail, Rock said the versatile Lorenz, far right in image, is trying to make the Sporting KC roster as a left back. Last year, he played 23 matches (19 starts) in all competitions and had three assists for the NSC Minnesota Stars in the USSF Division-2 Pro League.
The 24-year-old Horwath was an MLS pool goalkeeper in 2010 and spent significant time training with Kansas City and the San Jose Earthquakes, along with brief stints with the Red Bulls and the Seattle Sounders.
He is believed to be one of four keepers headed to camp with New York, joining starter Bouna Coundoul, backup Greg Sutton and Supplemental Draft pick Jimmy Maurer. More on Horwath's situation here.
