Daniel GonzalezDaniel Gonzalez, the former Middleton-Yahara Soccer Club coaching director, was retained as goalkeeper coach for Major League Soccer's Chivas USA.

Martin Vasquez, who hired Gonzalez last January, was fired by the club in October after one season. The team finished last in the Western Conference last season with an 8-18-4 record.

Chivas USA named former Real Salt Lake assistant Robin Fraser its new coach on Tuesday, and the former MLS defender announced that Gonzalez would remain in his role.

Gonzalez was the coaching director at MYSC from 2005-08 and also was the keeper coach for the Colorado Rapids from 2000-03.

  • JC Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay) and Andy Adlard (Brookfield East) are in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where the MLS Player Combine started today. The first of three matches for each of the four teams are Saturday, and all six games from the event will be streamed live on MLSSoccer.com. The schedule and rosters can be found here.
  • Forward B.J. Gottschlich (Germantown/UW-Platteville) advanced to the second day of an open tryout with the Chicago Fire in Bridgeview, Ill. The two-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year was one of 32 players invited to Saturday's session after approximately 200 players from 19 countries tried out Friday.
  • Off the field, Whitecaps defender Jay DeMerit (Green Bay/Bay Port) drove a U-Haul truck from Green Bay to Vancouver, stopping at antique shops and furniture stores along the way to collect items to furnish his new house. DeMerit posted updates several times a day on his entertaining Twitter feed.
