Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) picked a great time to score his first international goal.
The Politehnica Timişoara forward scored in second-half stoppage time to give Canada a 2-2 draw with Ecuador in a friendly Wednesday night in Toronto. (Video below)
"It's always good scoring, but the first one for Canada, I can't describe the feeling right now," said the 23-year-old Ricketts, who came off the bench in the 85th minute to earn his third career cap.
Midfielder Julian de Guzman played a quick free kick to Ricketts as Ecuadorian players complained to the referee about the decision, and Ricketts beat goalkeeper Marcelo Elizaga from the top of the box.
"(De Guzman) played the ball quickly. I was surprised at first and took a couple of touches and just put it in," said Ricketts, who scored seven goals in 13 appearances for the Canadian Under-20 and Under-23 teams.
It was the final tuneup for the Canadians before they open the CONCACAF Gold Cup on June 7 against the United States in Detroit.
