Marquette defender Vanessa Legault-Cordisco and midfielder Diamond Simpson, an incoming University of Wisconsin recruit, are in San Jose, Costa Rica, for a training camp with the Canadian Under-20 women's team.
Twenty-two players were called into the 14-day camp, after which new coach Andrew Oliviero will select a 20-player roster for the CONCACAF Under-20 Championships in Panama City, Panama.
That tournament starts March 1, with three of the eight teams earning berths in this summer's Under-20 Women's World Cup in Japan – the event has been moved after initially awarded to Uzbekistan.
Canada will play Haiti, Jamaica and Mexico at the CONCACAF championships, with the semifinals March 9 and the final and third-place match on March 11. The U.S. also will play in the tournament, but hasn't yet announced its roster.
- UW defender A.J. Cochran was one of 26 players invited to a U.S. Under-20 men's national team camp that starts Monday in Clermont, Fla. The center back, who was an Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team pick for the Badgers last fall, is among 14 players called in to the team for the second time this year. The Under-20 team will face reserve teams from two Major League Soccer teams during the 11-day camp, with matches scheduled against FC Dallas on Feb. 26 and the Montreal Impact on Feb. 29.
