Shannon Smyth (Mequon/Milwaukee DSHA) was named to the Republic of Ireland squad for the Algarve Cup in Portugal.
The 24-year-old Smyth, who will start her second season with Amazon Grimstad FK in Norway's Toppserien in April, has six career caps. She has dual citizenship because her father, Brendan, was born and raised in Ireland.
Ireland faces Hungary on Feb. 29, Wales on March 2 and Portugal on March 5 at the 12-team Algarve Cup. The team resumes qualifying for the 2013 European Championships against Scotland on April 5 – the team is second in Group 4 with six points through three matches.
