Jamie LiebermanJamie Lieberman (Racine Prairie School/UW-Parkside) is taking some time off from his duties as goalkeeper coach for the UW-Parkside men's soccer team.

But he's still working.

Lieberman is training with the U.S. Futsal national team in Torrance, Calif., the first time the goalkeeper has been called into a national team camp. The week-long camp, under the direction of Milwaukee Wave coach Keith Tozer, started Saturday at the Soccer City facility.

The U.S. team is preparing to play in the Grand Prix de Futsal tournament next month in Brazil and also is looking ahead to CONCACAF qualifying for the FIFA Futsal World Cup, which is next November in Thailand.

Lieberman was selected for the training camp based on his performance at an identification camp last week. He spent last season as an assistant for the Wright State men's team and has been a regular for the Wave's reserve team since completing his college career.

Wave veteran midfielder Matt Stewart, 35, also was one of the 20 players chosen for the training camp.

"I was pleasantly surprised and could not be happier with the quality of players we had at last week’s ID camp," Tozer said in a U.S. Soccer news release. "A majority of the players were Futsal players, where in the past they were strictly either outdoor or indoor players.

"We have a lot of work to do and that starts ... in Torrance. We are extremely excited to get together as a national team to prepare for the Gran Prix in Brazil next month."
