Whitefish Bay's Kate Markgraf, a former U.S. women's national team defender who retired last year, will serve as an analyst for ESPN's television coverage of this summer's Women's World Cup.
Markgraf, 34, earned 201 career caps – she's one of only seven players to reach 200 – played in three Women's World Cups, three Olympics and in the Women's United Soccer Association and Women's Professional Soccer.
The Women's World Cup is June 26 to June 17 in Germany. All 32 matches will be shown on ESPN or ESPN2 and online via ESPN3.com.
"It's just exciting to be able to speak knowledgeably about something I love," Markgraf said of her new position in a story on the Notre Dame website – she starred for the Fighting Irish from 1995 to '98.
Markgraf, who has three young children, also is a volunteer assistant coach for the Marquette women's soccer team.
