Did you get the feeling there weren't many goals scored during last weekend's WIAA state girls soccer tournament?
You weren't imaging things. It's quite possible this year was the lowest-scoring tournament in the event's 29-year history.
The 13 matches at Uihlein Soccer Park averaged just 1.15 goals per game, easily the lowest in the past 12 years. A complete list of scores for the first 17 years of the tournament was not available.
Since 2000, state matches were averaging 3.04 goals per match heading into this year. The highest-scoring years were 2004 (4.62), 2005 (3.92), 2010 (3.46), 2000 (3.40). The previous low average was 2.08 in 2006.

Appleton North, which beat Waukesha West 1-0 in the final, became just the second team from outside the Milwaukee or Madison areas to win a Division 1 or single-division state title. The Lightning joined Fox Valley Association rival Neenah, which won the single-division championship in 1990.

Private schools have won 15 of the 24 state titles since 2004 – including all eight Division 2 championships in that eight-year span.

The three championship games will be shown on Fox Sports Wisconsin next month. The Division 3 final is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 11, followed by the Division 2 game at 9 p.m. The Division 1 final will air at 7 p.m. July 12.
