WIAAThe field for the WIAA Division 3 girls soccer state tournament includes the past two champions paired against two newcomers.

Defending champion New Holstein plays debutant Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in the semifinals Friday morning at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, while 2009 champion Kettle Moraine Lutheran faces Mayville. 

Here's a look at the teams, none of which were ranked in the final Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association poll of the season – though Kettle Moraine Lutheran did receive honorable mention.

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption Royals

State tournament history: First WIAA appearance.
From the touchline: Roster has no seniors and just two juniors. ... Losses to La Crosse Aquinas 3-2, Menasha St. Mary Central 3-1 and Waupaca 2-0. ... Have allowed two goals in current six-match winning streak. ... Freshman F Mary Sigler leads team with 23 goals and nine assists, meaning she's been involved in 64 percent of the team's goals.

New Holstein Huskies

Coach: Nate Laabs, second season (31-13-7).
Record: 15-8-3 (10-3-1 Eastern Wisconsin Conference, third). Last 10 games: 9-1-0 (one win by forfeit).
Averages: Goals for – 2.96. Goals against – 1.46. Shutouts: 10.
Final WSCA ranking: Not ranked.
State tournament history: Fourth appearance, third in four years. Won Division 3 state title in 2010.
From the touchline: Defending state champions lost first three matches of the season and started 4-6-2. ... Avenged regular-season loss with 4-2 victory over previously unbeaten and untied Winnebago Lutheran in sectional finals. ... Senior F Mariah Wipperman (28 goals, 15 assists) and junior F Erin Diefenthaler (15 and 12) spark an offense that has scored three goals or more 13 times.

Mayville Cardinals

Coach: Dale Amundson, first season (11-7-2).
Record: 11-7-2 (7-3-0 Wisconsin Flyway Conference). Last 10 games: 6-3-1.
Averages: Goals for – 3.30. Goals against – 2.00. Shutouts: 7.
Final WSCA ranking: Not ranked.
State tournament history: First appearance.
From the touchline: Unbeaten in past six matches following second three-game losing streak of the season. ... Slide started with a 2-1 setback against state semifinal opponent Kettle Moraine Lutheran in conference play and included losses to Division 1 Hartford and Madison La Follette. ... Senior M Jenna Nehls (27 goals, 10 assists) and sophomore F Chelsey Turk (18 and 7) lead the offense, which has had seven players score.

Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers

Coach: Matt Moeller (106-80-15).
Record: 15-6-1 (8-2-0 Wisconsin Flyway Conference). Last 10 games: 8-1-1.
Averages: Goals for – 2.36. Goals against – 0.86. Shutouts: 11.
Final WSCA ranking: Honorable mention.
State tournament history: Second WIAA appearance. Won Division 3 state title in 2009.
From the touchline: Lost first four games of the season and started 1-5-0. ... Then put together a nine-game winning streak that included seven shutouts and just two goals allowed. ... Offense features junior F Abigail Hoerchner, who has 23 goals and shares the team lead with eight assists.
