National Soccer Coaches Association of AmericaWaukesha Catholic Memorial's John Burke was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Midwest Region Coach of the Year for private and parochial girls teams.

Burke led the Crusaders to a 23-2-2 record and their fourth WIAA Division 2 state championship in seven years in 2010, beating Grafton 1-0 in the final.

He is one of eight finalists for the national Coach of the Year award, which will be announced Friday at the NSCAA convention in Baltimore. Burke claimed the national award in 2001, while Madison Edgewood's Chris Martinelli won it last year.

  • Fond du Lac midfielder Kim Gietman was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Central Region team for 2010, her junior season.
