Milwaukee Marquette senior forward Patrick Hodan and former Sugar River midfielder Hannah Kernen, the Wisconsin prep boys and girls players of the year for 2011, were named high school All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Hodan, a Notre Dame recruit, and Kernen, who recently completed her freshman season at UW-Green Bay, also led the state contingent on the All-Region V team.
Marquette forward Joe Naughton, a University of Wisconsin recruit, and midfielder Logan Andryk joined Hodan on the boys' all-region team, which also featured Brookfield Central senior defender Nate Rohde and a pair of Kettle Moraine seniors, goalkeeper Mac Wheeler – a Marquette recruit – and midfielder Nick Biasiotta.
The girls' Region V squad included Kernen and former Madison Memorial goalkeeper Katy Pilarzyk, who now is her college teammate with the Phoenix, and former Waukesha Catholic Memorial forward Nikki Condit, now playing at DePaul. Memorial midfielder McKenna Meuer, a UW recruit, and Cedarburg midfielder Josee Stiever also were all-region picks – Meuer was a junior last spring while Stiever was a sophomore.
A pair of players who have committed to the UW women's program also made the girls All-American team, defender Brianna Stelzer of Lakeville South (Minn.) and midfielder Micaela Powers of Beavercreek (Ohio). Stelzer is a 2012 recruit, while Powers has committed for 2013.
Stelzer also was an all-region selection along with midfielder Kelsey Holbert and Kelly Lewers, who were freshmen at UW-Milwaukee in the fall.
