WIAAThe 30th annual WIAA boys soccer state tournament kicks off Thursday with the Division I quarterfinals at Time Warner Cable Field at Milwaukee's Uihlein Soccer Park.

If you can't make it to Milwaukee, Fox Sports Wisconsin will provide a live stream of the matches online. Here's a look at the eight sides hoping to raise the gold ball after the Division 1 state final Saturday afternoon.

Green Bay Preble Hornets

Coach: Chris Becker, ninth season (147-63-20).
Record: 18-5-2 (9-2-0 Fox River Classic Conference, tied for first). Last 10 games:
10-0-0.
Averages: Goals for – 3.68. Goals against – 0.92. Shutouts: Eight.
Final WSCA ranking: Not ranked.
State tournament history: Seventh appearance, first since 2008. Advanced to semifinals in 2001, '02 and '05.
From the touchline: Three of the Hornets' five losses were forfeits of victories for using an ineligible player, including two conference matches. Their only losses on the field were to Appleton North 2-1 on Aug. 20 and to Kenosha Tremper 1-0 on Sept. 3. ... Preble's top three scorers are juniors – midfielder Audi Jepson (22 goals, 13 assists) and forwards Edgar Landeros (16-7) and Fernando Vazquez (14-8) – and sophomore midfielder Evan Garcia (13-2) is fourth. Senior midfielder Austin Clermont is second on the team with 10 assists. ... Junior Cody Hallam (0.93 goals-against average, six shutouts) and sophomore Jason Tauschek (0.81, four) have essentially split time in goal.

Milwaukee Marquette Hilltoppers

Coach: Steve Lawrence, sixth season (117-19-9).
Record: 21-0-1 (7-0-0 Greater Metro Conference, first). Last 10 games: 9-0-1.
Averages: Goals for – 4.18. Goals against – 0.55. Shutouts: 14.
Final WSCA ranking: First.
State tournament history: 12th appearance, each year since 2000. Beat Appleton North 3-2 to win its record seventh state title (2000, '01, '02, '03, '05, '08 and '10) last year. Runner-up in 2004 and '07. Also won 15 state championships in the defunct Wisconsin Independent Schools Athletic Association.
From the touchline: The Hilltoppers are ranked fourth in the country by ESPN RISE, fifth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll and first in the NSCAA Region VI poll. ... 33-game unbeaten streak (32-0-1) since a 3-1 loss to Brookfield East on Sept. 28, 2010. ... The only game Marquette hasn't won this season was a 3-3 tie against nationally ranked Sacramento Jesuit in California. ... Have allowed just three goals in 14 matches against state teams (two by Brookfield East and one by Waukesha West). ... Senior forward Patrick Hodan, a Notre Dame recruit, has 38 goals (10 game-winners) and nine assists – he has been involved in 51 percent of Marquette's goals. Senior forward Joe Naughton (9-7), junior midfielder Alex McBride (8-5), senior midfielder Logan Andryk (5-7), sophomore forward Braden Andryk (7-3) and sophomore midfielder-forward Jack Menard (7-2) also are keys offensively, while senior Mark Kosobucki (0.52 gaa, 12 shutouts) is the keeper.

Middleton Cardinals

Coach: Ken Burghy, 28th season (495-135-46).
Record: 20-3-2 (8-1-0 Big Eight Conference, tied for first). Last 10 games: 7-2-1.
Averages: Goals for – 3.36. Goals against – 0.68. Shutouts: 16.
Final WSCA ranking: Second.
State tournament history: 12th appearance, second in a row. Lost to Eau Claire Memorial 1-0 in the quarterfinals last year. Won state title in 2004; runner-up in 2000.
From the touchline: The Cardinals are ranked seventh in the NSCAA Region VI poll. ... All three losses have been by one goal: 1-0 to Wauwatosa East on Aug. 17, 2-1 to St. Louis DeSmet Jesuit on Sept. 30 and 3-2 to Madison Memorial on Oct. 4. ... Four players have nine goals or more: junior midfielder Derek Ott (15-6), senior forward Jake Griffin (13-5), junior forward Nick Lund (9-8) and senior midfielder Andrew Frank (9-7). ... Senior Max Zimmerman (0.92 gaa, seven shutouts) has taken over in goal after splitting time with junior Daniel Geanon (0.45, eight) during the regular season. Zimmerman saved all three penalty kicks he faced after Middleton tied Madison West 1-1 in the sectional final. ... Burghy ranks in the top 50 for career victories for boys coaches, according to the NSCAA.

Brookfield East Spartans

Coach: Herbert Dundun, eighth season (182-19-0).
Record: 20-4-0 (5-2-0 Greater Metro Conference, tied for second). Last 10 games:
8-2-0.
Averages: Goals for – 2.33. Goals against – 0.67. Shutouts: 14.
Final WSCA ranking: Third.
State tournament history: Record-tying 15th appearance and second in a row. Lost to Milwaukee Marquette 6-2 in the semifinals last year. Won state titles in 1995 and '97; runner-up in 1982, '87, '89, '93, '99, 2003 and '06.
From the touchline: East is ranked eighth in the NSCAA Region VI poll. ... All four of the Spartans' losses have been to ranked teams, including a 1-0 setback against Middleton on Oct. 5. Avenged one of those losses with a 2-0 victory over Greater Metro Conference rival Menomonee Falls in the sectional final. ... Have allowed just two goals over the past eight matches. ... Senior midfielder Mark Heydt (7-12), junior midfielder Max Karcher (6-2) and junior forwards Alan Miranda (6-1) and John Orgovan (5-1) lead a balanced offensive attack – 10 players have three goals or more. ... Junior Alex Cagle (0.40 gaa, nine shutouts) is the main keeper, but senior Andrew Cordie (0.90, five) has seen significant playing time.

Chippewa Falls Cardinals

Coach: Ben Goeman, fourth season (60-29-6).
Record: 20-4-2 (8-4-0 Big Rivers Conference, second). Last 10 games: 8-1-1.
Averages: Goals for – 2.46. Goals against – 0.73. Shutouts: 14.
Final WSCA ranking: Not ranked.
State tournament history: Second appearance, lost in 2005 quarterfinals.
From the touchline: Two of the Cardinals' losses were to Eau Claire Memorial, which scored seven of the 19 goals Chippewa Falls has allowed on the season. ... Have been shut out five times. Those matches account for three of their four losses and both ties. ... Forward-midfielders Aaron Bresina (17-4) and Jason Faschingbauer (10-11) lead the attack, while fellow senior Jon Wollman (0.84 gaa, 12 shutouts) is a mainstay in goal.

Kettle Moraine Lasers

Coach: Greg Prospero.
Record: 17-6-1 (6-1-0 Classic 8 Conference, second). Last 10 games: 8-1-1.
Averages: Goals for – 2.75. Goals against – 0.75. Shutouts: 14.
Final WSCA ranking: 10th.
State tournament history: Second appearance, lost in 2007 quarterfinals.
From the touchline: The Lasers avenged a 2-1 loss to Waukesha West in conference play by beating the Wolverines 2-0 in the sectional finals. ... All six of their losses have been against ranked teams. ... Senior keeper Mac Wheeler, a Marquette recruit, has allowed just six goals in 1,200 minutes (0.40 gaa) and has eight clean sheets. ... Fellow seniors Trey Dowling (28-4) and Nick Biasiotta (6-13) are integral for Kettle Moraine going forward.

Neenah Rockets

Coach: Harry Kelderman, 31st season (544-123-4).
Record: 21-3-2 (9-0-0 Fox Valley Association, first). Last 10 games: 8-0-2.
Averages: Goals for – 4.62. Goals against – 0.77. Shutouts: 13.
Final WSCA ranking: Fifth.
State tournament history: Record-tying 15th appearance, first since 2008. Won state titles in 1985, '86 and 2007; runner-up in 1983 and '91.
From the touchline: The Rockets – ranked 12th in the NSCAA Region VI poll – are the top-scoring side in the Division 1 field, just ahead of quarterfinal opponent Elkhorn. The trio of sophomore midfielder Adam Pohlman (19-20), senior forward Reed Cammarota (17-11) and junior forward Taylor Hoffman (17-6) lead the attack for Neenah, which has scored five goals or more 14 times. ... All three of the Rockets' losses have come against ranked foes, including fellow state qualifiers Milwaukee Marquette (3-0 on Aug. 27) and Brookfield East (4-1 on Sept. 23). ... Senior keeper Jared Bahn (0.75 gaa, 11 shutouts) made one save as Neenah ousted Appleton North 4-2 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie in the sectional finals. ... Coming into the season, only 22 boys coaches in history had recorded 544 career wins, according to the NSCAA record book, putting Kelderman in elite company.

Elkhorn Elks

Coach: BZ Kayser, second season (35-11-1).
Record: 21-2-1 (9-0-0 Southern Lakes Conference, first). Last 10 games: 9-0-1.
Averages: Goals for – 4.38. Goals against – 0.67. Shutouts: 14.
Final WSCA ranking: Not ranked.
State tournament history: First appearance.
From the touchline: After starting the season 2-2-0, the Elks are unbeaten in their past 20 matches (19-0-1). ... One of those early-season losses was a 4-2 setback against Kenosha Tremper; Elkhorn avenged that loss with a 2-1 win in the sectional finals. ... The trio of senior midfielder Jordan Kayser (26-26), senior forward Keith Baerwald (21-7) and junior midfielder Jon Stopple (21-4) have accounted for 65 percent of the Elks' goals. ... Junior keeper Erik Papenfus (0.50 gaa, 14 shutouts) made 12 saves in the second half against Tremper in the sectional final and stopped two penalty kicks in the sectional semifinal as Elkhorn topped Kenosha Bradford 4-2 following a 1-1 draw.
