Milwaukee MarquetteMilwaukee Marquette's victories in last weekend's Jesuit Classic at Quad Park vaulted the Hilltoppers up the ESPN RISE Fab 50 national rankings.

Marquette (10-0-0) moved up nine places to No. 4 in this week's rankings after beating then-No. 9 Kansas City Rockhurst 1-0 and Washington, D.C., Gonzaga 5-1 to win both of its matches at the event for first time in four years.

ESPN's high school sports website also posted some of the goals from the Hilltoppers' wins – the highlights are at the 3:30 mark.

Marquette, which has been atop the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 1 state poll all season, has another big match on Oct. 8, traveling to California to play Jesuit in Carmichael near Sacramento. The Marauders are the consensus No. 1 team in the country and had won 67 consecutive matches coming into the week.

  • Strangely, Marquette dropped one spot to No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America rankings. The Hilltoppers remain second in the Region VI rankings, which also include No. 6 Middleton, No. 8 Waukesha West, No. 14 Neenah and No. 15 Brookfield East.
  • Brookfield Central played the Hilltoppers tough, dropping a 3-2 decision to visiting Marquette in double overtime in a Greater Metro Conference match Sept. 7, but came up with a terrific goal in the loss. Check out junior Brad Jakober's bicycle kick for the Lancers' equalizer in the 69th minute.

  • Winnebago Lutheran senior Aaron Calkins tops the state scoring charts with 39 goals, according to information provided to the Wisconsin Sports Network. Milwaukee Ronald Reagan senior Cheenuj Shong and La Crosse Aquinas junior Chris Paulino are tied for second with 26 apiece. Elkhorn senior Jordan Kayser leads the way with 20 assists, followed by New Richmond junior Eric Miller (16) and East Troy senior Antonio Gonzalez and Beloit Memorial junior Julio Martinez (15).
