Just more than a month before its season opener, the Lakeland men's soccer team is looking for a new coach.

Adam Galla stepped down as Muskies coach this week after four seasons at the helm to take over at another NCAA Division III program, Westminster in Fulton, Mo.

Galla led Lakeland to an 18-51-5 overall record, including a 6-32-3 mark in Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference play. He also coached the Muskies' women's program during his first two years, posting an 8-28-1 overall record in 2012 and '13.

The move to Westminster, which has earned NCAA tournament berths each of the past three seasons, will be a homecoming for Galla. A St. Charles, Mo., native, he played at NAIA William Woods, which also is in Fulton, and coached at NAIA Central Methodist in Fayette, Mo., before taking the position at Lakeland.

The Muskies open their season Sept. 1 with a non-conference home match against St. Norbert in Plymouth.

  • Three University of Wisconsin matches are scheduled to be shown on Big Ten Network this fall: Men's games at home against Northwestern on Sept. 14 (8 p.m.) and on the road at Penn State on Sept. 23 (5:30 p.m.), and the women's home game Oct. 6 against Nebraska at 7 p.m.
  • Kelsey Holbert (UW-Milwaukee) is the Horizon League nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. Holbert had a goal and six assists and earned second-team, All-Horizon honors as a senior last fall, and was a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Holbert graduated with a degree in chemistry (pre-med) and was UW-Milwaukee's Female Senior Student-Athlete of the Year for 2015-16. "Kelsey was the kind of student-athlete you want all of your players to be," Panthers coach Troy Fabiano said in a news release. "She is dedicated, works hard, is coachable, puts the team’s success over her own and will do whatever she can to help the team reach its goals. Kelsey conducts herself in a manner beyond reproach." The NCAA will announce 30 candidates for the award (10 per division) in early September, then will narrow the list to nine finalists (three per division) in late September before announcing the Woman of the Year on Oct. 16.
