It was only a friendly, but J.C. Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay) made quite an impression Saturday night.

Banks got on the scoresheet and was named Man of the Match after an impressive display during Minnesota United's 4-2 loss to Mexico's Club León in front of 18,505 fans at Target Field in Minneapolis. (Watch highlights below)

The midfielder played an influential part in the North American Soccer League team's attack throughout, and beat U.S. national team goalkeeper William Yarbrough to tie the score at 2 in the 69th minute.

Banks, in his second season with the Loons, made five substitute appearances in league play and logged 185 minutes in all competitions during the team's spring season. Minnesota United, which will move to Major League Soccer in 2017 or '18, resumes NASL play with the start of the fall season July 2.

  • Midfielder Tony Walls (Wauwatosa East/UW-Green Bay), who captained the Rochester Rhinos' USL championship side last year, parted ways with the team earlier this month. The 26-year-old Walls was named a first-team, All-USL selection and team MVP last season after the Rhinos finished 22-1-11 in all competitions, one year after he was honored as the team's top defender. He played a team-high 3,023 minutes in 2015, logging 96 percent of possible minutes, and had four goals and two assists. Walls, who spent time on trial with Minnesota United in February, had one goal in three appearances (two starts) for Rochester this year. "Tony played a key role in our success over the past two seasons," Rhinos chief soccer officer Pat Ercoli said in a news release announcing the termination of Walls' contract. "The Rhinos organization would like to thank him for his services." On Twitter: @TWalls20
