Lucas Kollross, who led Schofield D.C. Everest to its first WIAA state championship last spring, was named the 2014-15 National Girls Soccer Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Association.

The Evergreens finished 27-1-2 in 2015 and won their final 22 matches of the season after their lone loss, a 2-1 setback to Milwaukee DSHA in a rematch of the 2014 state final also won by the Dashers. D.C. Everest outlasted Kettle Moraine 1-0 in double overtime in the state championship game last June at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

Kollross, who has a 212-135-29 record in 16 seasons with the Evergreens, was one of three Wisconsin coaches among the 22 national coaches of the year announced by the NFHS on Monday – Darlington's Arnie Miehe was the boys cross country honoree, while Holmen's Karen Kuhlmann was lauded as the girls gymnastics coach of the year.

  • Kollross, who also is an assistant coach for the UW-Stevens Point women's team, was elected president of the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association for 2016. The other members of the organization's executive board for this year are vice president Robert Williams (Cedarburg HS girls/Elm Grove SC), treasurer Kevin May (Oregon HS boys) and secretary Chris Martinelli (Madison Edgewood HS boys and girls/Madison 56ers).
  • The WSCA is polling its members about a possible change to the WIAA state tournament schedule. Currently, semifinals for divisions 3 and 4 are on Thursdays and semifinals for divisions 1 and 2 are on Fridays, ahead of the Saturday state finals. A proposal being considered would rotate the days each year, so that one year divisions 3 and 4 would have a day off between semifinals and finals and the next year division 1 and 2 teams would have an off day between games. The alternating schedule was proposed by the WIAA Soccer Coaches Advisory Committee, and would need to be approved by the WIAA Sports Advisory Committee and the WIAA Board of Control before going into effect.
