Bato Radoncic and Max Ferdinand each had a hand in five goals as the Milwaukee Wave overcame a slow start to beat the Cedar Rapids Rampage 11-6 in a Major Arena Soccer League match Saturday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

The expansion Rampage (0-3) opened up a 4-2 lead late in the first quarter, but the home side scored nine of the next 10 goals to seize control. Radoncic and Ferdinand both had hat tricks and Marcio Leite added four assists for the Wave (2-1).

Newcomer Drew Ruggles opened his Wave account in the final minute of the first quarter and Tenzin Rampa (Madison West/UW-Milwaukee) pulled Milwaukee even 2:20 into the second as he scored for the second straight game.

Patrick Kelly put Cedar Reapids ahead again at the 10:56 mark, but Radoncic tied it up against just 13 seconds later and Pablo Da Silva gave Milwaukee the lead for good with his first goal of the season 1:59 before halftime.

A crowd of 2,400 saw the Wave score the first five goals of the second half, a run that included the first goal of the season for 42-year-old Marcelo Fontana and was capped by Ferdinand's team-best fifth goal with 3:35 left in the game.

Goalkeeper-assistant coach Nick Vorberg made 15 saves for Milwaukee, which is back in action Saturday night against the Detroit Waza Flo (2-3) in Flint, Mich.

  • Radoncic and Ferdinand each earned spots on the Week 5 MASL Team of the Week for their efforts against Cedar Rapids. Vorberg and Ian Bennett were named to the Week 4 honor team after helping the Wave beat Detroit 10-3 on Nov. 14, while Leite and Tony Walls (Wauwatosa East/UW-Green Bay) were honorable mention selections.
