Rose Lavelle (UW) played a key role as the U.S Under-23 women's national team went unbeaten to win the Four Nations Tournament last week in Norway.
The midfielder had assists in all three matches and scored in Sunday's 2-1 win over England in Fredrikstad that gave the Americans the title.
Lavelle set up the first U.S. goal just five minutes into the team's 2-1 victory over Sweden in its opener on Wednesday in Fredrikstad, playing a give-and-go at the top of the box on the right side with Kayla Mills that the Southern Cal forward finished.
Two days later against Norway in Sarpsborg, Lavelle got a ball from Ashley Meier and worked her way upfield before slotting a pass to Chioma Ubogagu, whose shot from the left side of box found the back of the net. The 75th-minute goal gave the Americans the lead, but the home side scored 3 minutes later to secure a 2-2 draw.
Then on Sunday, Lavelle got the ball from Daphne Corboz near the top of the D, turned her marker and fired a left-footed strike that English goalkeeper Mary Earps got a hand to but couldn't keep out, giving the U.S. the lead in the 7th minute.
England equalized in the 60th, but Lavelle then set up what proved to be the game-winner in the 73rd. Her high-arching through ball from the middle of the park found Taylor Smith racing in on the right side, and she beat a defender and Earps.
Lavelle, who is heading into her junior season with the Badgers, played all 270 minutes at the Four Nations Tournament. Sweden finished second, with Norway third and England fourth.
