For the first time in nearly three years, Superior lost a Middle Border Conference prep girls soccer match Thursday.

Junior Gaby Cruz and senior Sydney Simpson scored as New Richmond tipped the host Spartans 2-1, snapping their 34-game conference winning streak. Superior's most recent MBC loss was a 3-0 decision to Hayward back on May 29, 2012.

The Spartans trailed 2-0 in the second half before Amber Welsh pulled one back, with an assist from University of Wisconsin recruit Malley O'Brien. But the rest of the day, the Tigers (12-6-1 overall, 9-3-1 MBC) stymied a Superior attack that came in averaging nearly 5 goals per game and had scored at least three goals in every match this year.

The Spartans (16-1-0, 11-1-0) went into the game as one of two unbeaten teams in the state – the only remaining Wisconsin side with a perfect record this spring is Oregon (15-0-0).

• West Bend East's 4-0 win over visiting Watertown in a Little Ten Conference match Tuesday night was the 400th for Suns coach Brian Vetter, a 1998 East grad.
• Milton had the unique experience of playing host to top-ranked teams on consecutive days. The Red Hawks dropped a 3-0 decision to Oregon – No. 1 in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 state poll – in a Southern Badger Conference match Thursday night. Then on Friday night, Milton lost to Waukesha Catholic Memorial, ranked first in Division 3, by a 6-0 scoreline in non-conference play.
• Seeding meetings for the WIAA tournament are next week, with most being held Wednesday and a few on Thursday. The final regular-season matches are June 2, with postseason play set to start with regional semifinals on June 4. Regional finals are June 6, with sectionals scheduled for June 11 and 13 and the 33rd annual WIAA state tournament June 18 to 20 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
