Hapoel Haifa forward Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) scored the eighth goal of his international career Monday night, helping the Canadian national team to a 3-0 victory over host Puerto Rico in a friendly in Bayamon.
Maxim Tissot had the ball on the left side and played it to the middle of the box for Ricketts, whose first shot was blocked by a defender. He stayed with the play and finished the second chance left-footed as he was sliding to the ground, slotting the shot past Puerto Rican goalkeeper Matthew Sanchez to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute. The 27-year-old Ricketts was subbed out after 57 minutes in his 37th cap for the Canadians, who have won back-to-back matches for the first time since 2012 – they topped Guatemala 1-0 on Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Next up for Canada is a home-and-home, second round CONCACAF World Cup 2018 qualifying series against Dominica on June 8 and 16. Dominica edged the British Virgin Islands 3-2 in a first-round series that concluded Sunday.
