After three weeks on trial, Sam Dorf (Milwaukee Marquette) signed with Irish club Waterford United last Thursday.

The move hasn't been announced by the club yet because it still needs to be approved by FIFA and the Football Association of Ireland, Dorf wrote in a Twitter message.

Dorf, who played at NCAA Division II Mercyhurst (Pa.), is a midfielder who also can play up top. He played club soccer at Mequon United, and also spent time with the Milwaukee Bavarians and the Erie Admirals in the National Premier Soccer League.

Waterford United is 1-2-1 and in sixth place in the eight-team SSE Airtricity League First Division, the Republic of Ireland's second division – the country's leagues follow a schedule similar to that of American professional leagues, starting in March and concluding in October. Waterford is a port city on the southeast coast of Ireland.

  • Defender-midfielder Chandra Eigenberger (Ashwaubenon/UW-Green Bay) will start a trial with the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League on Tuesday. Eigenberger wrapped up her career with the Phoenix last fall, totaling three goals and six assists in 67 appearances. "I am very excited about having the opportunity to work with such a great organization and being able to train with a talented group of players," Eigenberger said in a news release. "This has always been a lifelong dream of mine and I am blessed that I am finally getting the opportunity to pursue it." The Thorns (10-8-6) finished third in the NWSL last season, falling to eventual champion FC Kansas City 2-0 in the semifinals. They open the 2015 season April 11 at home against the Boston Breakers.
  • Jose "Coco" Navarro (Marquette) scored his first professional goal – and the first in team history – but the Real Monarchs dropped a 3-1 decision to host Portland Timbers 2 in a USL match Sunday. Navarro pounced on a loose ball after T2 center back Rennico Clarke slipped just outside the box and lost possession, then slotted a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Justin Luthy to get the Monarchs on the board in the 59th minute.
