Another week, another Marquette men's soccer player headed to the professional ranks.
After seeing defender Axel Sjoberg and goalkeeper Charlie Lyon selected in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, Golden Eagles coach Louis Bennett tweeted Thursday that forward Jose "Coco" Navarro has left the program after two years to sign with USL PRO expansion team Real Monarchs. (Read Tweet)
The Monarchs, located in Sandy, Utah, are owned by Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake and will be the club's reserve team. The team didn't make an official announcement confirming Navarro's signing.
Navarro is a native of Inglewood, Calif., but has strong ties to Real Salt Lake. He spent three seasons in the club's residency program in Arizona and made several appearances for the team in the MLS Reserve League.
The 5-foot-7 Navarro played in all 39 games for Marquette over the past two seasons, starting all but one. He had three goals and five assists as a freshman in 2013 and was named to the Big East Conference All-Rookie Team. Last fall, Navarro finished with two goals and one assist.
