Noah Heim (Cambridge-Deerfield/Madison FC) had quite the weekend.

The goalkeeper helped the Region II 1997 team go unbeaten at the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Boys Winter Interregional in Sarasota, Fla., and was one of 11 players from his age group named to the event's All-Star team.

Forward Joe Schauer (Whitnall/Croatian Eagles) also was part of the Region II side, which played 1-1 draws against their Region III and Region I rivals on Friday and Saturday before closing out the event with a 2-0 victory over Region IV on Sunday.

  • Three state players helped the Region II 2000 team post the best record – and three clean sheets – at the ODP Boys Thanksgiving Interregional a few weeks ago in Casa Grande, Ariz. Defender Evan Donini (Waukesha West/Bavarian SC), forward Jack Longville (Eau Claire Memorial/Sporting St. Croix) and midfielder Ricky Perez (Eau Claire/PCYS) were part of the Region II side that finished 2-0-1 at the event from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1. The Region II team beat their Region III counterparts 1-0, then routed Region I 4-0 before wrapping up the competition with a 0-0 draw against Region IV.
  • Longville recently was named to the Region II 2000 team for the ODP Virginia Friendlies, which are Feb. 19 to 22 in Williamsburg, Va. Perez and fellow Wisconsinite Andy Mendez were named alternates for the event.
  • Seven Wisconsin teams were among the 440 that played in the Capital Area Soccer League Girls College Showcase last month in North Carolina, with four sides going unbeaten to win group titles. The SC Waukesha Blue Under-15 team (Elite Black) and Strike FC Wisconsin Under-19 team (Elite White) won all three games to win their four-team pools, while the Madison 56ers finished 2-0-1 in the Under-16 United Red Division and Elm Grove Blue went 1-0-2 in the Under-17 United Black Division. Racine United Red (1-1-1 in U17 Copa Black), SC Waukesha Blue (0-2-1 in U16 Elite Black) and North Shore United (0-2-1 in U17 Elite Black) also played in the massive event from Nov. 21 to 23 as state teams posted a combined 10-5-6 record on the weekend.
