Notre Dame's Patrick Hodan (Milwaukee Marquette) is a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, the fourth time in five years that a player with Wisconsin ties has been among the contenders for the top award in college soccer.

Hodan, a junior midfielder, had a team-high nine goals – five of them game-winners – and added three assists for the Fighting Irish (12-5-4) and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Last week, he earned a spot on the first team of the Capital One NCAA Division I Academic All-America team.

The Brookfield native was one of 32 players – 16 men and 16 women – named to the semifinalist lists for the Hermann Trophy on Tuesday. Three finalists for each award will be announced later this month, with the winners honored at a banquet Jan. 9 in St. Louis.

NCAA Division I coaches will vote on the finalists and winner, and results of fan voting also will be taken into consideration (Vote at the Hermann Trophy website)

Last year, University of Wisconsin defender AJ Cochran and UW-Milwaukee midfielder Laurie Bell were semifinalists, while Creighton's Ethan Finlay (Marshfield) was a semifinalist in 2010 and the runner-up for the men's Hermann Trophy in 2011. UW-Milwaukee's Sarah Hagen (Appleton North) was a semifinalist for the women's award in 2011.
