Victor Quiroz earned a spot on the Major Arena Soccer League Team of the Week as a defender – though it could be argued it might have been more fitting had the veteran been honored at goalkeeper on the six-player honor squad.

Quiroz played the final 24 minutes in goal against the Detroit Waza Flo on Saturday night after keeper Marcel Feenstra went down in the third quarter with what proved to be a torn ACL and MCL in his knee.

The defender, who usually plays as the sixth attacker for the Wave when that role is needed, stopped all four shots he faced to close out a 4-0 victory – just the sixth shutout in Milwaukee's 31-year history.

Feenstra tweeted that he will undergo surgery to repair his injuries Wednesday, and will miss the remainder of the season. The Dutchman's absence leaves player-assistant coach Nick Vorberg, 39, as the lone keeper on the Wave's roster.

Milwaukee (2-1) wraps up its season-opening, five-game road trip this weekend, playing at the St. Louis Ambush (1-2) at 7:35 p.m. Friday night and the Chicago Mustangs (1-2) at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The Wave's home opener is Dec. 6 against the Ambush, with kickoff set for 6:05 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
