University of Wisconsin midfielder Rose Lavelle is up for one of the U.S. Soccer Federation's top honors.

The sophomore standout is one of five candidates for the 2014 U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year, joining Virginia's Morgan Brian, UCLA teammates Samantha Mewis and Katelyn Rowland and Colorado high schooler Mallory Pugh.

Lavelle won the Golden Ball as the most valuable player of the CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship in January in the Cayman Islands, helping the U.S. cruise to the regional title and clinch a spot in the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup.

The 19-year-old from Cincinnati played all 390 minutes for the Americans at the Women's World Cup in August in Canada, and had a goal and an assist over the four matches.

Lavelle then was an integral part of one of the best seasons in UW history.

She had three goals and a team-best 10 assists and was a first-team, All-Big Ten Conference selection for the second straight year as the Badgers (19-3-2) set a program record for victories, won the Big Ten tournament and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
